California – Nextracker and Solar Energy International (SEI) have announced a partnership to launch an international Half the Sun scholarship program to support more women to join solar energy.

Although there is widespread agreement that smart workplace means more to women, women are increasingly represented in the solar industry.

According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), women make up only 28 percent of the scientific, technological, engineering, or mathematical (STEM) jobs in the global solar industry. This disproportionate gender gap is often the result of inadequate training and networking opportunities. The scholarship is titled “Half the Sun” and is derived from the famous book Half the Sky, which was translated from Fultzer Award winners Nicholas de Christophe and test stories into opportunities. Half the Sun is an interest-based scholarship program aimed at tackling gender inequality by expanding access to industry and developing the next generation of female and non-female solar professionals. From the day the awards are announced, recipients of the Half Sun Scholarship will have access to Nextracker Women’s Network regional members to ensure the continuity of their network and one-on-one consulting career. Recipients will provide a platform to connect solar work placements and discuss common practices in the workplace.
