A team of researchers with links to institutions in Germany, Switzerland and the United States By 2050, it has created a model that could be used to achieve net zero emissions plastic. Science, The team lists their model and requirements for implementation.
Numerous studies have shown that when the production and use of plastic is broken down into microplastics, it enters every water source on the planet and causes biological health problems. Plastic production also contributes significantly to global warming due to greenhouse gases. With this new effort, the researchers analyzed data from more than 400 research efforts aimed at solving the plastic problem and developed a model that could lead to a net zero-emission-plastic world by 2050.
It implements the built-in cycle by combining the recycling of plastics using the chemical reduction of carbon dioxide released during combustion or biomass collection. They suggest that 70% recycling would be sufficient to achieve zero emissions, resulting in 34 to 53% energy savings. They suggest that the costs involved will be the same as for other carbon-holding processes. They also estimate that the cost of implementing their model globally will reach $ 288 billion annually. They point out that plastic production currently accounts for about 6 percent of greenhouse gas emissions, and that if things continue as they are now, that number could increase to 20% in the next 30 years. They conclude that there is technology to solve the plastic problem – all that is needed is a license to do so.
