Government officials in Hawaii have called on the United States Navy to suspend operations at the Pearl Harbor offshore facility after World War II.
Naturally, petroleum is a fossil that can cause vomiting, diarrhea, headaches, and dizziness if inhaled, inhaled, or exposed to the skin.
The case was first reported on Nov. 30 when several people using the Navy’s Common Base Pearl Harbor-Hikam complained about the smell of gasoline, including the Hawaii Department of Health’s two elementary schools. The next day, the first test found fuel in a water sample, urging residents to look for alternative sources of water for drinking, cooking or oral hygiene.
On Friday, the navy announced samples of the Red Hill well, which indicates that the chemical is coming from the well. A navy spokesman told the Associated Press that the well had been closed since “November 28” due to “extreme caution”.
The Red Hill well contains 20 large reservoirs of oil since World War II, reports the Associated Press. Navy tanks have each built a 25-story building in two rows of 10 rows, three miles from Pearl Harbor.
It supplies up to 250 million gallons of water to 93,000 people in Pearl Harbor.
The navy did not say what caused the plumbing, but the Associated Press reported that water and oil spills from the fire extinguisher line into the tunnel at the Red Hill Farm Tank Farm. At the time, the navy said no oil was released in the area.
“Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hikam contamination of drinking water confirmed that the Navy is not functioning effectively during World War II,” said David Egeh, governor of Hawaii, and a delegation from the state legislature in a statement on Twitter. “As you face and address this issue, we urge the Navy to immediately suspend its operations on Red Hill.”
As a result of the leak, the state water board said it had to shut down the Halawa rod, which is the largest source of water on the island of Oahu. The department added that due to the closure of the Red Hills, water will be sent instead of the shale.
“We are very concerned that the Navy has not immediately notified us of the closure of the Red Hill water source,” said Ernest Laww, General Manager and Chief Engineer of the Water Supply Board.
Hawaii State Senate Senator Glen Wakai spoke on his Twitter account. He believes the issue is “man-made hazard” and the navy “must choose the speed with which it will solve the problems.”
Hawaii hurricane In Hawaii, hurricane warnings are expected at 12 inches of snow and wind up to 100 miles per hour
The water closes in response to severe weather conditions in the state. The islands were hit by heavy rain on Monday, with most areas receiving 10 to 15 inches of rain. All islands are under flood control and Igega urged residents on Sunday to prepare for landslides, road closures and damaged homes, Hawaii News reported.
