More than 4,800 acres for solar power development in southern Utah; Ability to create 200 jobs

Cedar City – Last week, the Cedar City Field Office announced the start of a 60-day bidding period for the lease of more than 4,800 acres of South Solar Energy Zone in Beverly County. And create more than 200 jobs.

Blue manages large public lands that have the potential to make a significant contribution to the country’s renewable energy portfolio.

“BLM has identified the Milford Flats South Solar Energy Zone to increase solar production capacity and reduce the impact on conflicts and resources,” said Gloria Tibets, Color Country Manager. Blue has previously given priority to the development of renewable energy in the Cedar City Field Office, which manages wind and geothermal power plants.

The road to developing rental solar zones began many years ago, Cedar City Field Manager Paul Briggs said in a statement.

“We are excited to develop renewable energy resources and lease Beaver County on Utah’s renewable energy capital,” Briggs said. We are working closely with our community partners and tribal governments to ensure that any leased packages are responsibly developed.

If the packages are fully rented and built, BLM estimates that the solar panels will provide an estimated 200 construction jobs and 15 workplaces with a total salary of more than $ 10 million. The area has an estimated capacity of more than 600 megawatts of electricity, providing power to an estimated 100,000 homes.

The publication of the competitive bidding notice in the Federal Register will officially start on Tuesday, November 9 at 10:00 am. 9, to conduct the lease.
