How to be a pilot

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has announced new regulations for drone operations in India and has therefore set up a framework for the expansion of aviation services in India. Drones, or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), are remote-controlled aircraft without a pilot. You will need a pilot’s license to fly the big ones.

Before you proceed, you need to know the types of drones in India as the license is based on that.
There are five categories

Nano: Less than or equal to 250 grams

Micro: More than 250 grams, and less than or equal to 2 kg.

a few: More than 2 kg, and less than or equal to 25 kg.

Medium: More than 25 kg, and less than or equal to 150 kg.

Large: From 150 km.

Pilot license

No trial license is required to operate nano drones and micro-drones for non-commercial use. However, any other type of drone – or any of these categories for commercial purposes – will need to be licensed and trained by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DCCA). According to the rules, all drone training and inspections will be conducted at an approved drone school. DGCA regulates training requirements, supervises drone schools, and issues pilot licenses online.

However, you do not need to purchase a drone to enroll yourself in a drone training program. Aircraft and training equipment are provided by the training facility.

Student remote pilot license; Student leave lasts for a maximum of 5 years, and can be renewed for an additional 2 years.

Remote pilot license; These training certificates and skills test reports from an authorized training organization are issued by the DCCA. The pilot’s license is valid for 10 years and can be renewed for another 10 years with each renewal application.

Eligibility requirements

You must be 18 years old and have a 10th grade certificate to join any training institution. You will also need to have a medical examination and a background check by the relevant government agency as specified in the DGCA. The maximum age for obtaining a pilot’s license for commercial activities is 65 years.

Duration of training

Course duration varies depending on the type of drone you want to use. Most drone training programs are short and can be completed in five to seven days.

Fee

Fees vary depending on the subject. Course fees start at 30,000 rubles and can be up to $ 1 million, depending on the course and the type of institution.

More skills

Although the basic requirement is only the 10th pass, you should try to understand the basics of flying aviation, weather, wind speed and other mechanics.

Drone work is expanding rapidly in various sectors, and each sector has specific requirements. For example, drone pilots are needed in areas such as film, geography, construction, mining, real estate, agriculture, transportation, energy, and telecommunications. Therefore, in order to be a successful flight operator, you need to have a thorough knowledge of the field.
