DTE Energy launches new $ 7.5 million gas plant in Walker – Grand Rapids Business Journal

DT Energy has spent $ 7.5 million to open a new center for its gas renovation program in North and West Michigan.

A Detroit-based power supplier opened its grand opening on August 25 at 4211 Three Mile Rd, known as the Walker Station. NW.

The new 19,000-square-foot DTE gas campus will employ 34 field workers, 21 office workers and more than 100 contract workers throughout the year in support of the gas renewal program.

DTE Energy said it will invest $ 110 million over the next three years to install a 92-mile new pipeline and upgrade 9,000 meters in the Great Rapids area alone. The effort, part of a gas renewal program, will further strengthen the reliability of natural gas supply and significantly reduce methane emissions.

“The opening of this facility is part of our state-of-the-art gas renewal program, which will invest $ 3.5 billion to replace steel and steel pipes with safe, secure and environmentally friendly materials,” said President Matt Paul. And COO by DTE Gas. As we move forward to complete this important task, the three-mile station will enable us to work more efficiently and collaboratively in Michigan.

The replacement hose is made of durable, flexible plastic that helps reduce methane emissions. By 2050, zero net carbon emissions on electricity and gas will be a key part of DTE’s commitment to the gas renewal program. When completed, the program will reduce methane emissions by removing 100,000 cars off the road.

“As technology advances, it will support our ability to transport new energy sources,” said Paul. “Our infrastructure transports renewable natural gas from methane from landfills, dairy farms and sewage treatment plants. In fact, renewable gas is now part of a voluntary natural gas balance program designed to help our customers reduce their carbon footprint.

The nearby rich station will continue to serve as the primary service center for gas operations and will support DTE’s mission to provide safe, secure, affordable gas to local customers along with a three-mile route.

“We are proud to welcome DKT Energy to Walker,” said Walker Mayor Gary Carey. As an investor, employer and important energy supplier, we consider DTE a strong and valuable community partner.

Customers who are interested in joining DTE on a net zero greenhouse gas emissions journey by reducing their own carbon footprint are invited to join the Natural Gas Balance Program. Participants can compensate for greenhouse gas emissions by using carbon offsets and renewable natural gas. More information is available at dteenergy.com/naturalgasbalance.
